If you make a literal translation from the Latin language, then competency is “ability”. In essence, competence is the ability to carry out your work at the highest level. Competency criteria are the end result of an activity. In fact, it’s not so difficult to understand, but still not all people know about it. If a person undertakes to inflate a balloon, then the result of his work should be exactly an inflated balloon. Any other states of the ball will not indicate a positive result.
Competence is perhaps the most easily verified. It will be sufficient to ask a person to show his result. Balls, of course, are too simple, but the rest can be dealt with. The main problem is not that people think that competence is something complicated, but that they don’t think in degrees of end results. As soon as we see the final results, it will be possible to safely assess competence in this area.
Competency indicators
Let's look at the term competency in work. For example, a person is engaged in sales. What in this area shows the level of competence? This is not the ability to trade and not the conclusion of transactions, but the end result - the sold goods and money at the box office. These results will indicate the competence of the manager. Well, everything is a little easier with them, but how do you know the competencies of a leader? First you need to set a goal that he must achieve in his work. If the director copes with his task, then he can be considered competent.
How to truly assess competency?
This principle of competency assessment can be applied in all areas of life: in the family, in personal life. How can competency be assessed in personal life? You should already have understood what results should be achieved. Of course, this is a happy family without quarrels and disagreements.
In addition, the end result is a healthy child who is ready for adulthood. And if the result is achieved, then we can judge the competence of parents in this area.
Certificate of life
Often we admire the competence of other people: athletes, entrepreneurs and actors. Even the janitor can surprise by perfectly removing the yard. Or, for example, a minibus driver who, without breaking the rules, instantly gets you to the right place and may even smile at the end. And what can make us happy in this situation? Of course, the final result, that is, the competence of the driver.
What would happen if only competent people surrounded us? Our life would be much more fun and enjoyable. You just imagine how much stress would disappear, but unfortunately it will never happen, since not all people can perfectly cope with their duties. Many simply cannot choose for themselves the type of activity in which they could succeed. For example, why should a person who does not understand mathematics, but perfectly sews things, go into accounting? Because of such an error, an incompetent accountant is obtained, and there could be a completely successful seamstress. Nowadays, competency is a very important factor in finding a job.
