More and more often on the pages of Internet resources for job search you can find such a vacancy as a hostess. This word is still incomprehensible to many and may cause some not very relevant associations. And, by the way, there is nothing “like” in this profession. After all, the position of "administrator" you do not associate with something indecent? A hostess is, in fact, the administrator, only his responsibilities include not monitoring the work of staff and financial management, but working directly with the guests of the institution, whether it be a restaurant, cafe or hotel. Its main task is to meet and serve visitors so that they want to return here again and again.

What are the responsibilities of the hostess? In the job description, which, I must say, rather big, they are painted literally point by point. Here are the most basic tasks that an employee (usually an employee) must perform as a hostess:

- cordially and always with a smile to meet guests who have come to a restaurant (or other institution where such a position is provided);

- accompany them to the table and help to accommodate themselves, offer menus, recommend certain dishes;

- accept orders (including by phone) for reserving tables;

- control the cleanliness in the hall, at the entrance and in the toilets;

- monitor the serviceability of equipment, plumbing, inventory, accessories, etc.;

- regularly check the availability and cleanliness of consumables, for example, napkins, toothpicks, etc.;

- coordinate the work of waiters and, if necessary, help them;

- take an active part in the daily cleaning of the establishment;

- possess high communication skills, stress resistance and good

memory to establish professional contact with each guest. Regular guests need to know not only by sight, but also by name. It is also advisable to further study their culinary preferences, behavioral features and other personal nuances;

- keep abreast of all events, promotions and special offers of the institution to tell guests about them;

- know at least one foreign language at the conversational level (English or French, but ideally, of course, both).

Perhaps someone will think that hostesses are not such a difficult job. But pitfalls and all kinds of nuances are also enough here. Not everyone is capable of day after day, despite the bad mood and the desire to “kill his neighbor”, portray genuine joy on his face, open the doors in front of each visitor, enter into a lively dialogue with them and make each of the guests feel the most significant and important. And it doesn’t matter if a person came in to throw a feast on the mountain or just drink a glass of mineral water. A hostess is a welcoming, hospitable, caring hostess who should meet visitors the same way she meets her friends at home. Each guest should be given attention. No one should feel left out.

In addition, children often come to the restaurant. The unspoken duty of hostesses in Moscow is to communicate with them. If the child likes that he was presented with a balloon in the restaurant and even given a coloring with colored pencils, he will certainly want to get it again. Thus, a child can make his parents regular customers of the institution.
