Today the hotel business is booming not only abroad, but also in our homeland. Given this, it would be logical to consider this environment as a potential place of work. What are the vacancies here? What are the responsibilities of working in hotels? And who do they take there?

Who is needed at the hotel?

Each hotel is unique in its own way, and therefore it is rather difficult to talk about them in general terms. At the same time, their individuality is manifested not only in the interior or in the sophistication of the rooms, but also in the kind of staff who work there. For example, if a small hotel can manage with an administrator and two cleaners, then the staff of a five-star hotel can include up to 50 specialists.

And yet, despite all the variety of vacancies, among them there are those that are most in demand.

Hotel manager

Administrator is the first person after the manager or general manager. It bears responsibility for almost everything at the hotel: accommodating clients in rooms, organizing work schedules, purchasing the necessary equipment, resolving conflicts, and so on. Frankly, this is the most difficult job at the hotel, and therefore the highest paid.

The main problem is that getting a job as an administrator is quite difficult. Especially when it comes to large hotels or hotels. Management understands that a poorly trained employee can blunder at any time, which will jeopardize their reputation. Therefore, they prefer to appoint only those specialists who have experience in the hotel business as administrator.

In addition, this type of employee must possess the following qualities:

  • Sociability, since working in hotels means continuous communication with customers.
  • Organizational skills, because most of the duties of the administrator are associated with the formulation and adjustment of tasks for staff.
  • Cleverness - nowhere without it, since non-standard situations will constantly arise out of the blue.

Sometimes owners present additional requirements to applicants for the post of administrator. For example, they can only recruit people with higher education or weed out those candidates who have poor diction.

Reception

Most hotels have a reception at the entrance - a separate area designed to welcome guests. It is here that customers first contact customers in order to book a room or find out the necessary information about the services of this institution.

Most often in small hotels at the reception sits the administrator. But expensive hotels, on the contrary, prefer to hire separate staff for this position. This is due to the fact that their reception desk passes through a lot more visitors, which justifies the additional costs.

Work at the hotel reception does not require higher education. However, in order to get to this place, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Have excellent diction and manners.
  • Have a presentable look.
  • Know English at a conversational level (this is due to the fact that some visitors to the hotel may be foreigners).

Hotel maid work

Any hotel has its own maids. After all, it is these employees who are responsible for the cleanliness of the rooms, as well as their landscaping. However, it should be understood that the duties of a maid go far beyond a simple cleaning lady.

In particular, the following tasks fall on her shoulders:

  • Maintenance of order in the room: wet cleaning, dusting, changing bedding, disinfection of the bathroom and so on.
  • Checking the material base. The maid without fail examines all the furniture and objects in the room, in order to verify their integrity. The same applies to electrical appliances, showers, locks and so on.
  • Control of some paid services. For example, in order for a guest not to be left without drinks, she should look into the minibar daily.

And this is just a small list of those responsibilities that conceals work in a hotel (hotel). It should be noted that the leadership of such institutions can implement their own services. Let's say some prestigious houses provide laundry and ironing services. In this case, the maids go to their rooms every morning, collect specially left-over clothing, and in the evening, after thorough cleaning, return it back.

Any self-respecting hotel has several doorman staff. These workers are primarily responsible for meeting clients at the entrance to the building. They should greet visitors and politely open the door for them. If necessary, they are also required to answer all questions or indicate the path to the reception.

  • Assisting guests with baggage handling.
  • Call a taxi.
  • Providing information about attractions, places for walking, shopping and so on.
  • Help with parking (in expensive hotels there is a separate category of employees for this).
  • Reception of letters, calls and documents of guests.

Who else is needed at the hotel?

Work at the hotel is multifaceted. Therefore, in addition to all of the above posts, there are other, no less popular specialties. Let's go through them briefly:

  1. Cooks. Most hotels offer their customers the opportunity to eat in the walls of their establishment. The cuisine here can be as ordinary as banality (scrambled eggs, oatmeal and black coffee), and very sophisticated (French, Italian, oriental dishes). However, any of the options involves having your own cook and his assistants.
  2. Dry cleaning workers. Prestigious hotels prefer to use their own laundry, as maintaining it is much cheaper than using the services of other companies.
  3. Movers. They are needed both for performing everyday tasks of the hotel (receiving linen, food, household chemicals), and for helping guests (delivering things to the room).
  4. Economists. The more prestigious the hotel, the greater its profit. Therefore, management often recruits a whole economic department: human resources managers, marketers, PR managers, accountants, and so on.
  5. Support staff. In order to get ahead of their competitors, hotels will often introduce additional services in their service. Therefore, do not be surprised that some of them are recruiting massage therapists, fitness trainers, experienced guides, translators and so on.

Features of work in the hotel business

The main feature of this work is that each employee is responsible not only for himself, but for the whole team. After all, any mistake lays a dark spot on the reputation of the institution, thereby jeopardizing all its employees.

In addition, work in Moscow hotels, as, in principle, in any other large city, requires perfectionism. This is due to fierce competition, which only allows those institutions whose employees fulfill their duties to five plus.

Hotel work: reviews and recommendations

In general, a lot depends on the specific place of work. For example, in some hotels, the staff is more than satisfied with working conditions and salaries, in others, on the contrary, no one lingers for long periods. Therefore, experienced people are advised to thoroughly study the future place of work before going there for an interview. For example, you can find reviews of employees who have already worked there on the Internet and check them. But, of course, when it comes to a presentable expensive hotel, most of the reviews about such establishments are usually more than positive.

Another important point is knowledge of English. Now more and more employers indicate this item when recruiting staff. Therefore, if you want to get into a prestigious hotel, then start to learn a foreign language in advance.
