One of the main tasks that the organization of each professional activity sets itself is the conformity of a person applying for a position (labor subject) with the conditions dictated by the profession (objective requirements). Human areas of knowledge are called upon to solve this question: psychophysiology, general psychology, psychodiagnostics, personality psychology, and others. They cope with the task by developing and using concepts such as the “professionogram” and “psychogram”.

How to find the perfect employee

To find the optimal ratio of the subject of activity and the activity itself, two methods are used, the principles of which are radically different: professional selection and selection. Both of them are based on the features inherent in the potential object of labor, as well as on the specifics of the labor process itself.

The selection consists in the fact that a profession, professional sphere or specialty is selected for a particular person, taking into account his individual psychological characteristics. This is done with the goal of fully realizing the potential of this employee in the agreed position, successfully fulfilling all tasks and duties, adequate behavior and response in any situations (typical or non-standard), as well as for obtaining professional satisfaction.

Document Value

As already mentioned, a professiogram and a psychogram become necessary for organizational behavior and personnel management. A psychogram is an integral part of a professiogram, which, in turn, is a description characterizing the structure and specifics of any type of activity, its socio-economic, industrial, technical and psychophysiological conditions. In addition, it includes a list of requirements that the profession puts forward to the employee.

The professiogram is designed to achieve the most effective implementation of professional requirements, create conditions conducive to the development of employee skills, as well as to obtain a product that society needs.

In addition, a psychogram is a document that becomes the basis for identifying possible paths, following which a person will be able to acquire the necessary psychological qualities. As a result of the analysis of her data, they decide on vocational training, retraining, advanced training, if they are necessary within the framework of this profession.

What data is indicated in the professiogram

This document (schedule, video or other form of information organization) reflects a list of qualities and character traits of a person that he will need in the course of his work, that is, it is intended to characterize a specialist.

The document has the following structure:

  1. The name of the profession and its specialties, which may vary depending on the specifics of the work or the object of influence.
  2. Skills, knowledge and skills that are necessary in the training and retraining of employees. This includes a list of requirements and conditions put forward to the level of training, a description of how the preparation for this specialty was carried out, a list of characteristics and properties that reflect the degree of professional, moral and cognitive orientation of each individual.
  3. List of existing psychophysiological contraindications and requirements for the profession. Thanks to this component, a correctly composed professionogram is able to reflect those personality traits that may hypothetically impede the performance of duties. It also illustrates the factors that provoke professional deformation of an employee, for example, the presence of conflicts with employees, the pressure of constant tension and monotony of activity.

Simplified document structure

The wording, the number of paragraphs of the document, as well as their visualization are developed individually (including a psychogram). An example might look like this:

  1. A list of typical production performance indicators (areas of activity, types of labor, types of labor tools, most important production functions, types of specific difficulties inherent to the profession, forms of labor organization, and also the nature of social ties).
  2. Description of sanitary and hygienic conditions (microclimatic conditions, working hours, the distribution of days off and holidays, injuries, occupational diseases, measures aimed at improving labor safety).
  3. A list of existing medical contraindications.
  4. Characterization of the qualification profile (degree of professional training, indicators of the level of general intelligence, list of moral incentives that have a motivating effect on the employee).

What is a profession psychogram and why is it needed

First of all, this document is an integral component of the professiogram. With its help, you can compile a description of the basic, most important requirements put forward by the profession for the employee in a psychological aspect. In fact, a psychogram is a psychological portrait of a person.

The volume of this document may vary, it depends on the significant goals of professional selection, the transfer of employees or their training.

Compilation of a psychogram occurs when studying reliable data provided by the following sources:

  • Documents, which may be provisions, descriptions, instructions, timing tables.
  • Written and oral surveys of employees. They can be arranged in the form of personal observations, questionnaires, natural and laboratory experiments.

  • Data obtained as a result of research (target or trial).
  • The results of ergonomic studies carried out at the workplace of the employee. To obtain information, electrooculography, electroencephalography, cinema cyclography, telemetry of physiological parameters, telechronoreflexometry are used.

Professional psychogram and psychological characteristics of the specialty

There is a list of requirements that characterizes the psychological aspect of any specialty or specific workplace. The requirements are put forward for such factors:

  • Organization, equipment and working conditions.
  • Organization and regulation of the psychological and pedagogical aspects of labor.
  • Personality of the team leader, teacher, organizer, specialist.
  • Socio-psychological parameters of the group.
  • Psychophysiological, intellectual, neuropsychic and personal characteristics of the employee.
  • Efficiency, emotional-volitional attitudes, altered human conditions.
  • Adaptation processes to innovations, general labor rhythm, different areas of perception, speed and quality of study.

How are the data used

A psychogram is part of a body of information about an employee that is subject to study and analysis. All these actions are necessary, since with their help it is possible to determine a person’s predisposition to perform certain duties. However, predisposition is not the only factor required for the successful completion of labor tasks, as it only indicates the potential for quick training and understanding the basics of the specialty. Sustainable motivation for the development of a particular type of activity is no less important than certain personality traits and qualities.
