How sometimes you want to be able to distinguish a lie from the truth. After all, you can say anything! But in the courtyard of the 21st century, and in addition to the lie detector, there is a profiler. It will be discussed about him in our article.

History reference

The meaning of the word "profiler" has English roots. Literally, the word profile, from which the concept came from, translates as a "psychological profile." Initially, these specialists were useful exclusively in forensics, where the method of solving crimes through the creation of a psychological portrait was actively used. The art of profilers consisted in the fact that the portrait of the criminal created by them was absolutely identical to its real appearance.

Profiler. What is it or who is it?

Profiler - a person who knows certain psychological methods, thanks to which he manages to predict the behavior of a person in a particular situation. On the basis of seemingly elementary things, such as characteristics of the appearance, verbal and non-verbal behavior, he sees the interlocutor "from the inside."

Technological aspects

The profiler uses the technology of “reading” the body language, facial expressions and reading between the lines in its work. For example, there is a suspect to whom they want to “sew” a case of a terrorist act. Naturally, when interviewing an investigator, this person monitors his speech and tries to control behavior. But when the operative asks a question regarding the luggage that was left at the station, his eyes are filled with mild anxiety, he almost imperceptibly strains his hand - this should be noticed by an experienced specialist.

The art of identifying the smallest details in the manners and behavior of another person requires considerable knowledge and professional skills from the profiler. It is necessary to clearly understand what exactly you need to pay attention to and what can be pushed into the background. Often in their work, the profiler (verifier) uses a voice recorder or video camera to record a conversation or video of the situation as a whole. This method works effectively, because with personal contact you can miss the seemingly insignificant details, and the film fixes everything. After the conversation, you just need to turn on the recording and listen / view it, making a certain analysis.

The verifier observes facial expressions, gestures, behavioral characteristics, examines the psycholinguistic patterns of speech, paralinguistic signs of verbal production.

The key mission of the profiler is to understand where the lies are. But at the same time, the specialist must understand when a person is sincere. Indeed, almost every one of us, listening to a person whose dialogue is characterized by verbosity, confusion of the story, thoughtfulness in answers, nervousness, will immediately decide that he became a victim of deception. As practice shows, such characteristics still mean nothing.

Profiler Tasks:

  • monitoring people
  • prediction of actions and actions of people;
  • an unmistakable definition of “empty” words and real intentions of a person.

A highly qualified profiler is a living analogue of a lie detector.

The main directions of profiling, or What are the profilers

Business Profiling. This is a modern model of conducting business negotiations, in which not only partner parties, but also a third party, a profiler, participate. What is this innovation in the business sphere, modern business people know firsthand. This specialist closely monitors the interlocutors of his client. He concludes on the seriousness of the partner’s intentions, evaluating his manners.

Bank profiling. The main character is a bank profiler. What it is? An innovative direction of control and a tool, the use of which allows to reduce a significant share of bad loans. But not everyone knows this. However, one can often see that a professional profiler observes the interview of bank employees with a potential borrower who applied for the purpose of obtaining credit funds.

Audit Profiling. Actively began to be applied by various audit companies in order to verify the integrity of accountants. Now in the financial statements they pay attention not only to the equality of debit and credit, but also to the behavior during the next audit of the accountant. The audit profiler is engaged in this. What it is? Almost all audit firms already know this new “remedy” against all kinds of financial frauds and, if possible, introduce such an “innovation” in their own countries. It is worth noting that such a check is an effective addition to the standard check of accounting papers.

Insurance Profiling. It is used by insurance companies in order to prevent or detect all kinds of fraudulent schemes when applying for insurance.

Transport profiling is a way of identifying passengers who can be a danger to the public: mentally unstable and aggressive people, people who have this or that weapon, etc. After all, such specialists have the ability to identify such people without problems.

Hotel profiling. It is used as a preventive measure in the name of avoiding crimes of various kinds that can occur in a hotel.

Personnel Profiling. It consists in "exposing" the applicant for the position and allows you to get to the bottom of what he will not write about himself - gambling addiction, criminal past, the presence of debts in especially large amounts, etc.

More recently, such a concept as family profiling was introduced - the ability to recognize the real intentions of the future husband, the difficulties in the life of a teenage son outside the family, and more.

In fact, there are a lot of areas for applying this specialty, and the most interesting is that this list continues to grow.

If we take it subjectively, then each of us can distinguish between lies in a particular industry.
