The driver profession is one of the most sought after in many countries. The development of transport infrastructure increases the requirements for drivers and their professional qualities. The choice of this profession implies not only the willingness to spend many hours driving a vehicle, but also the presence of some professional qualities that will help to become a master of their craft.

Profession driver. Description and Features

A driver is a worker who drives a particular vehicle and has a driver’s license with the corresponding open categories. A driver is needed in many sectors of the economy and production, so finding a job for a specialist in this field is not difficult. Large companies have their own fleet and hire drivers for regular passenger and freight traffic. The profession of a car driver is most in demand in taxis that are available in every city.

In addition to cars, drivers drive trolleybuses, trams, buses, special equipment, etc. They distinguish between vehicles for passenger transportation, cargo transportation and other tasks. But no matter how the driver drives the vehicle, he is always responsible for the safety of the transported goods and the lives of passengers. In order to become a driver of a certain vehicle, you must have rights that confirm the ability to drive this vehicle.

Driving License Categories

To drive a motorcycle, you need a driver’s license with open category A. The presence in the certificate of category A indicates that the driver can drive two-wheeled vehicles, as well as a motorcycle with a sidecar, the weight of which in full gear does not exceed 400 kg. In this category, the A 1 subcategory is distinguished, the opening of which makes it possible to control motorcycle models with a small engine capacity.

Category B is passenger cars that have up to eight passenger seats and weigh up to 3,500 kg. The presence of this category indicates that the driver is allowed to drive a car with a small trailer (up to 750 kg) or a transport train with a total weight not exceeding three and a half tons. To drive a vehicle with a heavy trailer, the driver must have the BE category.

To drive trucks, an open category C is required. These vehicles include trucks weighing over 3.5 tons, including those with a small trailer. To drive a truck with a heavy trailer, you must have an additional CE category. Also subcategory C1 and C1E are distinguished in category C. The opening of the C1 subcategory allows you to control trucks in the weight range of 3.5-7.5 tons. The C1E subcategory includes trucks with a heavy trailer, the mass of which exceeds 750 kg, provided that the total weight of the entire train is no more than twelve tons.

Category D in the driver’s license indicates that the driver can carry out passenger transport, including on vehicles with a light trailer. Such means include buses and fixed-route taxis, the number of passenger seats of which does not exceed eight people. The ability to drive a bus and minibus with a trailer weighing more than 750 kg gives the category DE. Allocate a subcategory D1, which allows you to drive vehicles with 9 to 16 seats, including with a small trailer. To drive vehicles of category D1, but with a heavy trailer, you must open category D1E.

Category E is currently excluded from driving licenses. It has been replaced with the above categories with the prefix E, for example BE, DE or CE. A driver of category E can drive vehicles with heavy trailers (more than 750 kg). Under the new rules, he needs to exchange his ID for a new one. There are two options for replacing an identity card. If the driver of category E opened it before 01.01.2001, then the new certificate will contain all previously opened categories with the prefix E. If you receive category E after this date, only those categories for which exams have been passed will be included in the certificate. The new rules create categories for trolleybus and tram drivers.

Driver requirements

The profession of a driver implies that a person has certain personal qualities and medical indications in order to become a professional in his field.

Mindfulness and caution on the road help to respond in time to a dangerous situation, which can lead to serious consequences. In addition, the driver must have a good memory, since it is necessary to navigate in a large number of road signs.

The medical indications presented to drivers include: good eyesight, absence of diseases accompanied by involuntary movements, mental health.

Driver Responsibilities

Depending on the place of work and the type of vehicle being driven, the responsibilities of the driver also differ. The personal driver refers to domestic staff and, in addition to managing transport, his duties most often include keeping the car clean and maintaining its condition.

The bus driver profession implies, in addition to passenger transportation, the transport of their luggage. Usually the bus has an approved route, which the driver must strictly follow. The driver of the tram or trolley must be able to check the condition of the vehicle and eliminate elementary malfunctions.

How to become a driver?

The profession of a driver implies the presence of a special education. It can be obtained at driving courses, at the end of which, and after passing the exam, a driver's license with open categories is issued. Such courses are included in some educational programs of universities and secondary technical institutions. The presence of a driver’s license does not mean professionalism of the worker. Experience is of great importance in this profession, because many skills come with the number of hours spent driving.

Wage

The salary of the driver depends on the company where he works, as well as on the schedule and the number of hours of work. The most prestigious profession in this area is considered to be a personal driver, since here the salary of personnel strongly depends on the employer's capabilities and the services provided by the driver. The average salary of a bus driver is 50,000 rubles, and that of a trolleybus or tram is about 40,000 rubles.

The salary of drivers of vehicles intended for freight transport depends heavily on the policy of the enterprise. Privately, a driver can earn more, but work at the enterprise is characterized by stable payments, which for some is a weighty argument.
