From the outside it may seem that the responsibilities of the hotel administrator are limited to just providing the room keys and registering you in the database. To dispel this myth, let's take a closer look at the work of one of the main employees of the recreation complex.

Often the post of administrator is called the receptionist. Translated from French, this word means “door”. The hotel’s specialist got this name because his workplace, the reception, is located in the immediate vicinity of the entrance, and he meets guests. This wording, of course, is not accurate, because the administrator in the hotel performs much more functions based on his job description. So, he must ensure the smooth operation of all hotel services, check the readiness of the room for checking in, check the availability of necessary drinks and snacks in the minibar, and coordinate the work of subordinates. In small hotels, the administrator is entrusted not only with the function of registering guests, receiving keys and valuables under guard (in the safe), but also preparing the rooms for check-in, informing guests about the main attractions of the city and how to get to them.

One of the most important functions performed by the hotel administrator is to book rooms by phone, e-mail and other means of communication, control the hotel’s load and fix the guests’s non-appearance on the scheduled day. Untimely accounting of the number of booked and occupied rooms can lead to an “overbooking” situation - in other words, guests will buy more rooms than there are in the hotel in free use.

Quite often, the hotel administrator receives requests for booking additional services, first of all, this concerns the possibility of providing tourists with extra beds for children and adults or changing the room category. If there is such an opportunity, the category of the room can be changed, already living in the hotel, having made an additional payment.

All issues, disputes and conflict situations are also required to be resolved by the hotel administrator, within the framework of his authority. Who, if not he, should decide on the complaint received from the client, if he was not provided with a room booked in advance, services, if he had problems with payment.

Profit is the main goal for any hotel, therefore the hotel administrator also has the function of controlling the departure of guests, during which payment of all bills must be verified.

In order to correctly and accurately ensure the operation of all services, the hotel administrator must know the rules for the provision of hotel services, the maintenance of premises, the rules for drawing up staffing, the structure of the hotel and other aspects. This knowledge is necessary to carry out their work efficiently and professionally.

The position “hotel face” is an important and responsible one. Regardless of the situations and problems that occur at the hotel, a good mood, a smile do not leave the administrator, because the service sector is based primarily on hospitality.

Everyone can become the administrator of a hotel complex: it is necessary to undergo training at a university, technical school or hotel courses and have a colossal desire to work. Knowledge of foreign languages ​​is welcome, especially if the hotel is located in a tourist center with a large flow of tourists.
