Have you ever heard the mysterious word "recruiter"? What it is? Everyone probably thought about this. In fact, the name of this profession came to us from France, because it is in French récruter that means “army recruitment”. Nowadays, it is the recruitment manager that is engaged in recruitment; he is also an HR manager.

The origins of the profession

For the first time, a personnel consultant appeared after the end of World War I in the West. Although then his work was more like recruitment than recruiting in the modern sense of the word. And only at the beginning of the 90s the first recruitment agencies began to appear in Russia. Of course, the conquest of the labor market began with the capital, but today the regions have also been quite successfully covered.

Specialist Requirements

Work as a recruiter is a big responsibility, because it is he who represents the company at an interview with future employees. And this means that the impression that the selection manager will make on the candidate will remain in memory for a long time and may affect the decision to work in the company.

Basic requirements for a recruiter:

  • pleasant appearance;
  • confident and competent speech;
  • higher education (ideally, personnel management, psychological would be useful);
  • Recruiter’s resume should reflect his experience and achievements;
  • stress resistance and the ability to quickly find solutions.

What does a recruiter do?

What is this, we figured out, and it seems clear - the recruiter is engaged in the selection of personnel. But how exactly does he do it? You must have been in an interview at least once in your life. Can you now recall it in detail and describe? What questions, in what order did the interviewer ask? Have you ever thought that this is not without reason and that each recruiter has a certain algorithm of work? Yes, that’s right, and now you’ll learn about the main inalienable stages of this scheme.

Recruitment Stages

Many do not know, but the work of a recruiter begins long before the interview. First, he receives an “order” from the company for a specific employee. This can be either a senior manager or a simple worker or even a group of workers. Each vacancy has its own range of requirements for which work begins … on the network.

  1. Today it’s actually much easier to select staff on sites, and even a freelance recruiter can do this, but getting orders is much more difficult, because the competition is huge. So, our HR manager begins to look through hundreds, if not thousands, of resumes posted daily on popular job resources. In the process of this enumeration, there are hardly more than twenty to thirty candidates who could approach the indicated position.
  2. After the resumes are compiled and studied, the recruiter starts calling for the first “stress interview”. Why is it called that? The fact is that you have to answer questions on the phone right away, there is no way to prepare and think. And for most people, this is a very stressful process. After all, the questions can be quite tricky.

  3. In the process of telephone communication with candidates, 50% of them are eliminated. Someone could not get through after several attempts, someone did not make an impression, and someone was completely incompetent. So, there are about 10-15 worthy specialists who will be invited for an interview in an office or another place. By the way, recently large companies prefer to hold meetings on neutral territory. For example, in a quiet cafe or even in a park. This helps to better understand how a person will behave in an unusual situation for him.
  4. The next stage, perhaps the most voluminous and difficult for both parties, is the interview itself. Here, a competent recruiter, using leading questions, tries to draw up a psychological and professional portrait of the candidate, find out how much he meets the stated requirements, and whether there is potential for development in him.
  5. After communication, which usually takes from 10 to 30 minutes, the recruiter needs to take notes and move a little away from the candidate he has heard so that the impression of the next is not blurred. Ideally, the rest should be 20-30 minutes, but with a large number of resumes this is not possible, so at least a five-minute break is recommended.
  6. When all the candidates have been listened and interviewed, the most important thing is to weed out those who did not fit. And, despite the external simplicity, this stage is also quite complicated. It often happens that many people liked it, but only 5 people can go further. After selection, the recruiter must communicate the decision to all candidates, including those who are refused.
  7. Those who are interviewed are invited to the office to get acquainted directly with the management of the company. At this stage, part of those who want to take a vacant place can also be excluded.
  8. After a decision has been made on the employment of a candidate, the recruiter collects documents for verification by the security service and transfers them to the personnel department.

Recruiter Salary

Of course, the salary of a recruiter depends primarily on the region of work. Indeed, in Moscow and St. Petersburg this figure is much higher than in the region. However, the experience and skills of the HR manager himself play a significant role. Someone will be able to earn 17-18 thousand rubles, and someone else's earnings will be all 40-50 thousand. Most often, the level of wages is determined by the results of the interview.
